Each educator brings a wealth of personal knowledge and enthusiasm to their expertise. 

The following list is a sampling of our guides:

ECOLOGISTS

Marcelo Aizen, Ph.D.

With a Ph.D. from the University of Massachusettes, Marcelo mainly studies the plant-animal interactions in areas such as the Valdivian rain forest (temperate rain forest in Nahuel Haupi National Park) and the Llao Llao Forest Reserve.

Juan Gowda, Ph.D.
Juan is an expert on Animal Ecology with a Ph.D. from Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences. His interests include plant-animal interactions and plant defense theory.  He leads groups through areas through the southern regions of Nahual Huapi National part, partiuclarly near the Rio Manso and Mount Tronador.

Thomas Kitberger, Ph.D.
An ecologist with varied interests, Thomas has a Ph.D. from the University of Colorado. His reseach specialties include forest and disturbance ecology (such as fire). He often leads groups through the rainfall gradiant of Patagonia from the arid steppe through the lush coihue and cypress forests.

Andrea Premolim, Ph.D.
Andrea is an expert in the evolution of plants in the Patagonia temperate region.  Other interests include native forest conservation and glacial refugia.  She received her Ph.D. in Ecology from the University of Colorado.

Cecilia Nuñez, Ph.D.
Cecilia has her doctorate from the University of Montana and focused her research on high Andean plants and various plant adaptations.  She leads groups through High Andean zones (above the tree line) and ecozonal regions such as the Traful valley.

Cintia Souto
Cintia specializes in the genetics of speices found in the temperate forests including the amancay and notro.  She is an expert in glacial plant speicies, and takes groups through the Challhuaco Valley, Puerto Blest region, and Ecotonal zones.

Karin Heinemann
Karin is an expert in forest ecology and the regeneration of subalpine forests.  She leads groups through hikes in lengua forests all  over Patagonia including the Challhuaco valley, Cerro Catedral, Cerro López, Cerro Tronador, and Paso Puyehue.


FAUNA EXPERTS

Lorenzo Simpson
With a background in veterinary medicine, Lorenzo is the leading authority on the Andean condor in the region.  He has been researching the endangered bird for years and his work as been seen on programs such as National Geographic.

Alejandro Vila
Local researcher working with the World Conservation Society (WCS).  His work includes habitats populated by the endangered Patagonian deer, the huemul.
